African Europeans An Untold History

In this documentary, african europeans an untold story, the audience gets to learn the perspective of ancient africans as told by the writer of the previously mentioned book! Professor Olivette Otele speaks of her intention to tell the stories of original historical Africans and their European connections and descendents while summarazing her book with the help of the host’s questions.

The author speaks candidly about her “favorite” ways to look at history – such as class, gender, and of course race demographics – to better understand and piece together a history long gone by, starting as far back as the “creation” of Africa as a world-known place. She wants to discover and possibly restructure the way we think of the definiton of “African European” starting with the geography of African and why people outside of Africa became so interested in it.

In essence, there was “untapped potential” in the land and the people of Africa that Europeans seemed to want to take advantage of or “fix” – such as Queen of Sheba who appeared in multiple books of faith like the Hebrew Bible and the Muslim Quran in different interpretations depsite being a real woman of her time. This interpretation made her “more myth than man” or “more demon than woman” in our time but the basis of her existence as recorded in these books of faith still remains in word of mouth and in scientific evidence.

The main point here is that we don’t actually know anything other than that she could have existed in any of these ways because “victors write the history books” and in the case of Africa, Europe was the “victor” who decided that no Queen of Sheba ever existed, and so on and so forth for many African people but most especially powerful African women throughout history who’s entire being has been brought into question under the ancient European idea of “pics or it didn’t happen,” as the popular modern quote goes. Until a new person sees her and decides what she will become once again.
