Joanne Rowling was born in Worcestershire England in 1965. She is more commonly known as J.K. Rowling author of best selling children’s book series “Harry Potter.” Joanne a self-proclaimed “bookworm” grew up loving reading as her parents always had books around. She was only 6 when she wrote her first book “Rabbit.” It would be decades later when she would publish her first novel “Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone” about a young wizard. Her first Harry Potter book went on to sell 800,000 in less than one year. After publishing 7 books, Warner Brothers paid J.K. Rowling a reported 2 million dollars for the rights to her first four Harry Potter books. The movies were as successful becoming one of the largest movie franchises. J.K. Rowling made a large profit from the films while keeping her creative control. She has now moved beyond the Harry Potter universe to pen a book for adults called “The Casual Vacancy.”
